Tough three days for the Mariners as they lose two at home to the Yankees and blow a 6-3 lead tonight against the White Sox on the road. The bullpen just isn't good enough. They're now 51-11 when leading after six innings (.836), below the MLB average of .868. But they're 5-11 when tied after six.

A man of the people, A.J. Ellis even thanked the media before departing the Dodgers for his new gig with the Phillies: "You have treated me so fair," he said. "The members of the media have made me look and sound better than I really am. I'm really thankful for you guys. You guys deserve to be the voice to the fans. Hopefully more people, more future players, remember what you guys do so thank you all very much." Now that's some analysis.

After losing two games to the Orioles in the wild-card race the past two days, the Mariners need a win tonight, especially with the O's losing. But an error by Ketel Marte led to three unearned runs for the White Sox in the seventh as the Mariners have blown a 6-3 lead. You can't lose these leads and expect to make the playoffs.

Max Scherzer stopped the Nats' four-game losing streak, stopped a hot-hitting Orioles team (8 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 10 K), and stopped fans from panicking with Strasburg on the DL. He even stopped a ground ball between his legs - backwards. Pretty sure that makes him a stopper.

Everyone is up in arms over why thd Dodgers would trade A.J. Ellis, Clayton Kershaw's personal catcher and best buddy. It's simple though: Ellis ranks 347th out of 351 batters with at least 150 PAs in wOBA. They needed a better option available in case Yasmani Grandal gets injured.
