Don Mattingly confirmed the Marlins have Interest in Koji Uehara & Junichi Tazawa. "They're at least part of our discussion about how we'd like to build a bullpen. Not just with some flexibility but different styles"

Don Mattingly on Kenley Jansen's interest in Miami: "He didn't tell me he absolutely wanted to say on the west coast or he absolutely didn't want to play in South Florida. So basically, he was open to the idea. . . . My call was to let him know that we talked about him, there was legitimate interest and we just wanted to make sure that he had interest."

If Jorge Soler indeed lands in Kansas City in the Wade Davis deal, the best case I can make for Soler in fantasy is the substantially larger role (which, obviously, does matter a good bit). But it's a significant park downgrade for power, so there's a good chance the result is he'll be overvalued. It'd be tough for me to take him over even, say, Yasmany Tomas, my OF56.

This is a little late, but I just wanted to say how proud we all are of ESPN colleague Claire Smith for making history as the first woman to win the J.G. Taylor Spink Award. Everyone knows that Claire is a talented, principled and accomplished journalist. But it's the other things that come to mind for me: She's the kindest, most encouraging person I've met in the business, and there might only be a handful who come close. All her friends in the baseball world share in her achievement, and we can't wait to stand and cheer when she gives her speech in Cooperstown in July.

The Astros are hoping that newly-acquired OF/DH Carlos Beltran will be a leader in the clubhouse and a bit of a mentor to shortstop and fellow Puerto Rican Carlos Correa. The two players and and teammate Jose Altuve went out to dinner together for the first time Monday night. "Correa probably grew up watching Carlos Beltran," said manager A.J. Hinch. "He's probably been to his academy in San Juan. He might be half-scared of Beltran for all I know. We'll see."
