Puerto Rican players Javy Báez, René Rivera and Víctor Caratini from the Chicago Cubs send a message to the island after being devastated by Hurricane Maria. While Báez and Rivera have had limited contact with their families, Caratini has not heard anything at all from any of his family members, who live in the hard-hit town of Coamo in the center on the island, which has also been affected by over 30 inches of rain.

The Cubs beat the Brewers 5-4 in 10 innings just as they did one night earlier. Tommy La Stella drew a bases loaded walk in the tenth to bring home Kris Bryant who walked to lead off the inning. The game had been tied 4-4 since the fifth inning as the Cubs bullpen was did its job. Carl Edwards pitched the final 1.2 innings for the win. Jay, Bryant and Zobrist drove in the other runs for the Cubs while John Lackey settled down after giving up back to back homers in the second. Another thrilling win dropped the Cubs magic number to 5.

Red Sox 5, Reds 4: Powered by Rafael Devers and steadied by David Price, the Red Sox came from behind to win the opener of a three-game interleague series at Great American Ballpark. Devers snapped a homerless drought of 116 plate appearances with a three-run shot in the fourth inning. Price tossed 2-2/3 innings of scoreless relief of Rick Porcello. It marked Price's second appearance since coming off the disabled list and being moved to the bullpen.

According to ESPN Stats and Info, Jon Jay is the third player this year to foul off 11 pitches in an at-bat with all three ending with the player getting a hit. Shane Peterson and JD Martinez are the other two players that did it.

Jesse Rogers ESPN Staff Writer

A 15 pitch at-bat by Jon Jay, which included 10 consecutive foul balls, may have changed the course of the game as three batters later Ben Zobrist drove in two runs with a single, giving the Cubs their first lead. The count wasn't even full yet when Jay finally singled to right, eventually scoring on the Zobrist hit.

Scott Lauber ESPN Staff Writer

In his second relief appearance, David Price threw 40 pitches in 2-2/3 scoreless innings to hold a 5-4 lead. Once again, Price showed good power, touching 95 mph on his final pitch of the night. He gave up three hits and one walk and struck out four batters, including the side in the sixth inning. Overall, Price has now thrown five scoreless innings out of the Red Sox's bullpen.

Scott Lauber ESPN Staff Writer

Tough to say what was more surprising: David Price batting for himself in the seventh inning, or David Price blooping a base hit into left field. Enormous smile on Price's face after reaching base. Haven't seen it much this season.

Rafael Devers hits his first homer since Aug. 19, a three-run shot that gives Red Sox a 5-4 lead. Devers has gone 116 plate appearances without a homer after hitting eight in his first 84 big-league plate appearances.
