Walker Buehler recorded 35 strikeouts in his first 25 innings this month. He has 10 tonight, a career high (that will probably be topped many times over).

Luke Voit on this series with Boston: "We don't want them to clinch here. They're our rival, and we're going to try to do everything we can. We've been cold as a team, and we haven't been our New York Yankees ... (With improving health) it's scary how good this team's going to be, and we're looking to do some damage when we get to the playoffs." Added Luis Severino: "It doesn't matter what the score says. They're going to win 100-something games, we're going to be behind them. We're going to grind until the end. Every game from here out, we're going to fight until the end."

Nolan Arenado has come up with five runners on base and struck out twice. He's playing through a sore shoulder and has really been struggling at the plate, hitting .200 over his past 22 games with three home runs.

Rockies LF Gerardo Parra did not move an inch. Matt Kemp launched one way over his head for his 20th home run this season. The Dodgers now have seven players with 20-plus home runs, a franchise record.

Walker Buehler faced seven batters, threw 36 pitches and allowed a couple of runs, on a two-out single by Ian Desmond, in the first inning. The Dodgers had a reliever, Zac Rosscup, warming in the bullpen. Buehler has allowed 2 runs or less in 8 of his last 9 starts.

Quite an adventure in the top of the first at Dodger Stadium. The Rockies load the bases with no outs, Walker Buehler nearly works out of the jam, but then Ian Desmond -- starting at shortstop -- grounds a hard-hit two-run single up the middle. Buehler ends up throwing 36 pitches. Looks one of those nights where we might see six or seven Dodgers relievers. Yay.

Sept. 20 in MLB history: 6 no-hitters (Larry Corcoran 1882, Nixey Callahan 1902, Nick Maddox 1907, Frank Smith 1908, Hoyt Wilhelm 1958, Bob Moose 1969), Grover Cleveland Alexander's 300th win (1924), Mickey Mantle's 536th & last HR (1968), Mickey Morandini's unassisted triple play (1992) & the end of Cal Ripken's 2632-game iron man streak (1998).

Over the last two years, Yasiel Puig, a RHH, is OPS'ing 286 points higher against RHs than LHs, which is why he is sitting for the second straight day. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Puig is able to stay square in his stance against righties because he's "not afraid of the baseball" and "it allows him to stay on the baseball." For some reason, Puig is better at reading the ball tailing away from him as opposed to the one breaking in on him. Most guys are the opposite.

Cubs reliever Pedro Strop (hamstring) is hopeful to be back for a game or two before the end of the regular season. He's doing some light throwing off flat ground and some jogging. He won't push it but is optimistic: "I'm not going to lie to them. I'm not going to try to be a hero."

Rockies SS Trevor Story is "day-to-day," Bud Black said. He will report to the team's spring training complex to receive treatment tomorrow. "It truly is encouraging where he is," Black said.

It took David Price 41 seconds to throw the 2-2 pitch to Stanton (Struck him out). His playoff starts will take 6 hours.

How important is it for the Yankees that Aroldis Chapman is coming off the DL? Consider this. He has 31 saves and two blown saves this season. The rest of the bullpen has blown 13 saves. New York's bullpen also had a 3.98 ERA after he went on the DL about a month ago. Prior to that, that ERA was 3.12.
