Mike Trout and Albert Pujols (who's been bothered by some mild plantar fasciitis) are both getting a rest today for the Angels against Cincinnati. "We're trying to add depth to our team," said manager Mike Scioscia. "I guess we found one way to add bench depth."

Read into this what you will: the Tigers found two praying mantises in the dugout this series, one in the actual dugout, one peering over "with two little eyeballs" as manager Brad Ausmus described. Ausmus said he finds it "amusing" that Kansas City Royals have a "rally mantis" but then again "they've been hot so I guess I can't really argue with it." Ausmus, however, seemed disturbed at the suggestion of bringing the pair of mantises with them on the road to KC. He grew up in CT, which passed legislature in 1977 to name the European "praying" Mantis the state insect. Sounded wary of violating any laws protecting or transporting the bugs. I'm not making this up.

The Orioles have claimed Drew Stubbs off waivers from Texas. The 31-year old centerfielder gives the O's insurance in case Adam Jones' hamstring issue lingers. Jones is not in the lineup for a fifth straight game, but did take batting practice today. "He gives us a good solid dependable defensive outfielder," said GM Dan Duquette of Stubbs, "and also a pretty good base stealer." A former first round pick in 2006, Stubbs ranks 9th among active players with an 82.9% success rate on SB's. In 39 games with the Braves and Rangers this year, he slashed .259/.343/.414.

Rockies LHP Tyler Anderson continues to be ignored but numbers at Coors Field are good. Another good outing today.

Buster Olney @Buster_ESPN

The most surprising name in the Cardinals' Top 10 by WAR is Greg Garcia, a player who spent about a month in the minor leagues and wasn't supposed to have a significant role. Injuries opened the door and Garcia has played well. He has, for example, a .500 on-base percentage in his last 10 games and he has played above-average defense, according to DRS, at all three positions he has played, shortstop, second and third base.

After blowing a two-run lead in the top of the eighth, the Red Sox score twice in the bottom and emerge with an 8-6 victory and a series win over the Rays. They're within 1.5 games of the AL East, with Toronto playing in Baltimore tonight.

Astros tie the score against Oakland in the bottom of the eighth. First and third, Evan Gattis at the plate.

Wow. Rougned Odor homers and has twice as many homers as walks. Never happened before if finishes this way. Not good.

Scott Lauber ESPN Staff Writer

It's been a rough August at the plate for Jackie Bradley Jr., but he's ending it on a positive note with three hits, including a solo homer in the sixth inning and an RBI double here in the eighth. In spite of their combustible bullpen, the Red Sox are up 8-6.

Jesse Rogers ESPN Staff Writer

The Cubs are sending top prospects Eloy Jimenez and Ian Happ to the Az fall league, it was announced on Wednesday. Here's the full quote from Terry Collins on the state of Neil Walker's herniated disk and the probability of surgery: "The issue is the herniated disk is causing weakness in one of his legs. The weakness is causing numbness in one of his feet," Collins said. "The numbness is keeping him from playing. So we are waiting for the second opinion to find out if surgery is necessary immediately? If not, are we waiting? How long? He's got to get some strength back in his leg in order to play. So, yes, he could play. But do we take him out in the sixth inning? The other night it flared up on him. We end up winning the game, and he said, 'I'm not sure I could have gone extra innings.' That is where we stand right now. Until the second opinion comes back, we are hesitant to put him out there."
