Based on age (30) and numbers, J.D. Martinez will get bigger deal than Yoenis Cespedes (4 yrs./$110M at age 31 last year from Mets) and Justin Upton (5 yrs./$106M at age 30 last month from Angels). But how much bigger? Scott Boras, believed to be seeking seven years, will point to Martinez and Mike Trout as only players since 2014 to hit .300 or better with at least 125 HR, 350 RBIs and 140 OPS+ as reason Martinez should get at least $28 million per year.

The Yankees have re-signed CC Sabathia to a one-year, $10M deal, sources confirmed. The Yankees now have five starters with Luis Severino, Masahiro Tanaka, Sonny Gray and Jordan Montgomery filling out the rest of the rotation. Sabathia's resigning will not preclude the Yankees from trading or signing another starter. Sabathia is now in place after Yankees GM Brian Cashman and Sabathia's Roc Nation agent, Kyle Thousands, agreed on the deal today. It is pending a physical.
