The Cubs have claimed righty pitcher Dylan Floro from Tampa Bay. He's 26, drafted in the 13th round in 2012. He's appeared in 12 ML games, all last year, and was in their system when Maddon managed in Tampa Bay. The Cubs 40-man roster stands at 39.

Cubs pitcher Jon Lester clarified any confusion as to why he didn't attend the White House ceremony to celebrate the Cubs championship on Monday tweeting he had a death in the family and the funeral was on Monday. Several players missed the ceremony including Jake Arrieta who also was dealing with family issues. The Cubs also have stated no player missed the ceremony for political reasons. Lester attended after the Red Sox won the WS in 2013.

The Royals signed pitcher Danny Duffy to a 5-year contract extension. Duffy had the best season of his career in 2016. From June 11-Aug. 21 he was 10-0 with a 2.35 ERA. He also set the Royals single-game strikeout record with 16 against the Rays on Aug. 1. The one concern would be his last 7 starts -- he was 1-6 with a 6.37 ERA and 12 HR allowed in 41 IP.
