You have to wonder if Clayton Kershaw's potential injury will motivate the Dodgers' front office to get even more aggressive after someone like Yu Darvish, even if it isn't necessarily serious. Darvish would only be a rental, one who can't be given a qualifying offer if traded, but the Dodgers can't take chances with a group this good.

Clayton Kershaw disappeared into the trainers' room after the top half of the second inning, and now Ross Stripling is warming up. Looks like he will take it from here. No word yet on what might be ailing Kershaw, who has been pitching at his best.

Dodger Stadium just held its collective breath for a couple minutes. Clayton Kershaw was checked on by the Dodgers' trainer with two outs in the second, with rumors swirling about the team's interest in Yu Darvish. The Dodgers began Sunday with a Major League-leading 67 wins and plus-173 run-differential. They're baseball's deepest team, but they'll still look to shore up their pitching before the trade deadline. Dave Roberts, when asked if there's a difference between a roster that is set up to win in the regular season versus the postseason: "I think they're two separate discussions -- one to win long, but also the idea to have the pieces to win 11 games. I think we have the pieces to win 11 games, but I think every roster has the ability to improve."

Clayton Kershaw's last five starts: 2 ER, 22 H, 6 BB, 1 HR, 51 SO, 36 IP. He's basically in his seventh consecutive season of being the game's best pitcher, leading the Majors in wins (15) and ERA (2.07). Dodgers catcher Yasmani Grandal, on what keeps pushing Kershaw: "It just comes with his personality, his attitude. He could've easily just backed off after he got his contract."

Quick turnaround for a day game after night game means rest for Dustin Pedroia, who is still dealing with knee soreness, according to Red Sox manager John Farrell. Pedroia has 27 RBIs in his last 21 games and is expected back in the lineup Monday night in Seattle.
