Pirates catcher Francisco Cervelli, a native Venezuelan, sits before tonight's game with the Little League team from Venezuela. Poignant moment, considering what their country has been going through socially and politically.

The Cardinals are taking infield and going through BP ahead of tonight's first-of-its-kind MLB Little League Classic.

Red Sox 5, Yankees 1: Two out of three ain't bad. It's also exactly what the Sox needed. For the second weekend in a row, the Red Sox managed to keep the second-place Yankees at arm's length by winning two of three games. Jackie Bradley Jr. drove in three runs, including a tone-setting two-run triple in the second inning against Yankees starter Sonny Gray. Rick Porcello tossed six solid innings for his fourth consecutive win.

ESPN Stats and Information

Aaron Judge went hitless Sunday, striking out in the eighth inning to match Bill Stoneman's MLB record with strikeouts in 37 straight games. Judge has struck out in all 15 games he has played against the Red Sox this season; he is hitting .155 and has only one home run against Boston.

Soon: big-league ball in a minor league park in the home of the Little League World Series. Bowman Field looks sharp.

Aaron Judge extends his newly-minted MLB single-season strikeout record to 37 consecutive games with at least one strikeout.

Aroldis Chapman comes in to pitch in the 6th inning for the first time since September 23rd, 2011.

The Dodgers lost Sunday to snap their 6-game winning streak, but won the series against the Tigers, 2-1. They haven't lost a series since June 5-7 vs the Nationals

Miguel Montero has caught 41 of Kyle Hendricks' outings, the most of any catcher, so maybe the former Cub had a good idea what to see today. He's doubled and homered off Hendricks, the latter hit tied the game in the sixth inning.

Now that Aaron Hicks is playing every day, it can be said that every AL East team has a superb defensive center fielder. Feel free to rank them: Jackie Bradley Jr. (Red Sox), Hicks (Yankees), Adam Jones (Orioles), Kevin Pillar (Blue Jays) and, when healthy, Kevin Kiermaier (Rays).

Apparently, when Justin Verlander is on, not even the Los Angeles Dodgers can beat him. Verlander held the rolling Dodgers to two hits over eight innings, one of which was a solo homer from Curtis Granderson. The Tigers beat LA 6-1, snapping the Dodgers' six-game winning streak.

Scott Lauber ESPN Staff Writer

Joe Girardi isn't considering moving Aaron Judge out of No. 3 spot in lineup. "He's going to stay there," Girardi said. "He's still dangerous. He's still getting on at a pretty high clip." Judge is 0-for-3 today, 1-for-11 in this series and 9-for-57 this season vs. Red Sox. He hasn't homered in 70 consecutive plate appearances vs. Boston.

Bradford Doolittle ESPN Staff Writer

Looks like the Tigers' Justin Verlander is done after eight dominant innings against the Dodgers. Los Angeles managed just two hits off of Verlander, including Curtis Granderson's solo homer in the sixth. Verlander struck out nine. Detroit leads 4-1 as we head to the bottom of the eighth.

Just before one of this afternoon's Little League World Series games, Pirates and Cardinals players who played in the LLWS were given replica jerseys from the time they appeared in the event as kids. Shouted the Cards' Tommy Pham to teammate Lance Lynn: "That won't fit you anymore!" Fellow Cardinal Randal Grichuk and Pirate Max Moroff also played in Williamsport.

The dual no-hitter thing is done, but we're left with a pretty good contest brewing between the Tigers and Dodgers. Curtis Granderson got LA on the board, homering off of his old pal Justin Verlander by hitting the right-field foul pole in the top of the sixth. Verlander just missed with a two-strike fastball on the previous pitch. It's 1-0 LA but the Tigers are threatening against Kenta Maeda in the bottom of the sixth.

After arriving in Williamsport, PA, for tonight's MLB Little League Classic, the Cardinals welcomed onto the field the Little Leaguers from North Carolina.

Things are getting interesting in Detroit, where we've got not one but two no-hitters going. Detroit's Justin Verlander has allowed only Yasiel Puig's walk in the fifth, while the Dodgers' Kenta Maeda is perfect through five. Verlander has thrown 64 pitches; Maeda is at 57.

Bradford Doolittle ESPN Staff Writer

The Dodgers entered today with 87 wins already on the board. The most wins the Giants could possibly finish with is 87. In other words, the Giants will be eliminated from the NL West race with one more loss or one more LA win. It's Aug. 20! According to Elias, the last time a team was eliminated from its division race this early was 1998. The Giants have never been eliminated from NL West contention this early, dating back to 1969.

Bradford Doolittle ESPN Staff Writer

We've zipped through three innings already in Detroit. Eighteen up and eighteen down so far, thanks to three perfect frames apiece from Tigers starter Justin Verlander and Dodgers starter Kenta Maeda.

Jerry Remy, honored at Fenway for 30 years as Red Sox broadcaster: "I am fully confident I will be back in that booth for Opening Day next year -- when the Red Sox lift another pennant." Remy begins chemotherapy tomorrow to treat relapse of lung cancer.

Jesse Rogers ESPN Staff Writer

The Cubs are breaking in two new -- though veteran -- catchers during a pennant race as they'll give Rene Rivera his first start on Sunday after Alex Avila joined them at the trade deadline. With Willson Contreras going down, Joe Maddon has been impressed with the pick ups: "What our front office has done is pretty spectacular."
