The Astros, however, have lost seven games they've led after six innings -- including five games they've led after eight. Stay tuned.

The A's are relentless. The Astros score four in the top of the the third to take a 4-2 lead, but Khris Davis belts a two-run homer in the bottom of the inning off the top off the center-field fence, his second of the game off Justin Verlander and his 36th of the season. Verlander continues to struggle with the long ball: He's now allowed 14 in his past seven starts.

Javy Baez is the first Cub since Corey Patterson in 2004 to record at least 20 home runs and 20 stolen bases as he reached 20 in the latter category in the first inning today. He has 25 home runs and 89 RBI to go along with his 20 steals. He leads the Cubs in all 3 categories.

The Cubs and Pirates are in the running for a noteworthy weekend when it comes to a lack of offense. They've combined to score just 6 runs total in the first three games of their series. It's been 32 years since two teams combined for 10 or fewer runs in a 4 game series while the low mark this season is 11 runs -- achieved by the Cubs and Brewers. According to Elias, the fewest runs ever scored between two teams in a 4 game series is 5.

Yu Darvish (elbow) is scheduled to throw 50-60 pitches and no more than 3 innings in a rehab start for Class-A South Bend today. If he's efficient over the three innings then he'll throw more in the bullpen afterwards, per Joe Maddon.

The Cubs scored exactly one run in each of their last 3 games, all via solo home runs. That hadn't happened to the franchise in the last 110 seasons, and it's first time since 2016 it happened in major league baseball. The Cubs offense has been stuck in neutral essentially since the all-star break, attempting to pull the ball way too often, according to Joe Maddon: "We have to stay in the middle of the field. That's the one time this year that I thought we were a pretty powerful offense."

Watch Tyler Chatwood discuss his short outing on Saturday. He walked 3 in 2-plus innings before being pulled in the Cubs 3-1 loss to the Pirates.

And just like that, the A's have incredibly tied up the AL West after Trevor Cahill blanked the Astros for seven innings, allowing just one hit while mixing four pitches and getting six swinging strikeouts, four with his curve. The 74-49 record is Oakland's best through 123 games since 1992.

Cubs closer Brandon Morrow threw between 20-25 pitches off the bullpen mound as he rehabs a biceps injury. He's confident he can pitch threw any discomfort as he moves forward, though he's in no rush considering how well Pedro Strop and other relievers have performed: "I hope there's a set up job still available when I come back," he joked.
