Addison Russell, the top prospect in the Oakland Athletics' system, is expected to be sidelined for at least a month with a tear in his hamstring.
Russell also had a right hamstring injury during spring training, but this injury is believed to be in a different part of the leg. The shortstop took some time off, then reported to Double-A Midland where he was reinjured in Friday's game against Arkansas after homering and singling earlier in the contest.
A's assistant general manager David Forst confirmed in a text that Russell will be sidelined until May, according to Insidebayarea.com.
Ranked No. 12 overall on MLB.com's top 100 prospects, Russell, 20, was diagnosed with a Grade 3 tear, which is a complete tear of the muscle.
