CLEVELAND -- The injuries keep piling up for the Cleveland Indians.
Swisher was examined by a team physician Monday. Asked if the second opinion was being sought to determine if surgery was needed, manager Terry Francona said, "What we need to do is allow this process to play itself out. With the ballclub's help and urging he's going to get another opinion. We'll then put everybody's head together and see how we progress moving forward."
Swisher has been bothered by the injury most of the season and missed two weeks in June. He's hitting .208 with eight homers and 42 RBIs.
Swisher and Murphy were removed from Saturday's game and placed on the 15-day disabled list on Sunday.
Murphy, who had been bothered by soreness on his right side, was injured on a swing. He's hitting .262 with seven home runs and 55 RBIs.
"It's not really all that surprising because when Murph comes out of a game we knew had to be feeling it," Francona said. "You're kind of at the mercy of the oblique. Once it goes away Murph will go fast, but you have to let it heal."
Outfielder Michael Bourn, who hasn't played since July 5 because of a sore left hamstring, is on a minor league rehab assignment. Francona said he could return this weekend.
