Brewers RHP Jimmy Nelson to have exploratory surgery on right shoulder

Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Jimmy Nelson will have exploratory surgery on his injured right shoulder Tuesday.

Nelson suffered the injury last week while diving back to first base as a runner and was diagnosed with a right rotator cuff strain and partial anterior labrum tear. He has already been ruled out for the season.

Manager Craig Counsell said it was possible that Nelson could miss time next season depending on what doctors find in surgery.

Nelson was placed on the 10-day disabled list Friday to make room for the call-up of right-hander Aaron Wilkerson from Triple-A Colorado Springs.
