Derrek Lee scratched from lineup

PITTSBURGH -- New Pittsburgh Pirates first baseman Derrek Lee was a late scratch from the lineup on Thursday due to a bruised left hand.

Lee was hit by a pitch in the ninth inning of Wednesday's 1-0 loss to the Chicago Cubs, Pittsburgh's sixth consecutive defeat. He said there were no broken bones or structural damage. Lee was not available to pinch-hit Thursday, but he said he hoped to return Friday.

Lee hit two home runs on Monday in his Pirates debut after being acquired in a trade from the Baltimore Orioles two days prior.

Lee is 3-for-10 with three RBIs in three games for the Pirates.

Garrett Jones took Lee's place at first base, with Xavier Paul filling out the modified lineup in right field.
