Ramon Hernandez, Rockies agree

DENVER -- The Colorado Rockies bolstered their depth at catcher, agreeing to a $6.4 million, two-year deal with veteran Ramon Hernandez.

Hernandez, who gets $3.2 million a year, played the past three seasons with the Cincinnati Reds. He hit .282 with 12 home runs and 36 RBIs last season.

The Rockies were in the market for another catcher after trading Chris Iannetta to the Los Angeles Angels for right-hander Tyler Chatwood late last month.

The 35-year-old Hernandez is joining his fifth major league organization. He also has spent time with Oakland, San Diego and Baltimore.

Hernandez will compete for the starting job with Wilin Rosario and Jordan Pacheco.
