Watch Joe Maddon discuss the notion his sluggers shouldn't be looking to get players over to 2nd but should be driving them in as Kris Bryant did on Friday against the Dodgers when he homered with a man on first and no outs in the tenth inning.

Bryant's two homer night includes go-ahead shot (0:44)

Kris Bryant is on fire. He's hit his 34 and 35th HR's of the season on Friday against the Dodgers. The second one coming in the tenth inning to break a 4-4 tie. He has 9 HR's this month. The Cubs are 3 outs away from a come from behind win as Bryant continues to make his case for MVP.

Kris Bryant hit his league leading (tied) 34th home run of the season, a blast to center in the 8th. The run means the Cubs have scored at least 3 in 24 consecutive games, the most games in a row since 1996. The Dodgers still lead 4-3.

Big moment for Mike Montgomery as he works out of another jam in the fifth. He's been off his game but kept the Cubs in it having thrown 5 innings using a season high 91 pitches. He only trails 3-2 having given up 6 hits and 4 walks. Not the best outing but perhaps it's a learning experience as Joe Maddon left him despite clearly not having his best command.

Anthony Rizzo drove in his 88th run of the season in the fifth inning against the Dodgers on Friday. He's been overshadowed lately by a hot hitting Kris Bryant but remains in the hunt for the NL MVP. He's finished 10th and then fourth the last two years.

The Cubs got good news about a trio of injured pitchers -- Pedro Strop, John Lackey and Hector Rondon -- who should be back before too long.

Joe Maddon says things are progressing well with his injured pitchers as John Lackey (shoulder) and Hector Rondon (triceps) have been throwing while Pedro Strop is also taking steps in his rehab from a knee injury.

The Dodgers have Bryant's number

The Cubs begin a three-game road series against the Dodgers on Friday and if history is any indication, Kris Bryant won't be his normal self. Bryant is 8-37 with 19 K in his career vs. the Dodgers, and his .216 batting average vs. the Dodgers is his worst against any NL team (ESPN Stats & Info).

How do Cubs rank in intangibles?

Kris Bryant ranks in the top 10 in three different categories. Javier Baez and Miguel Montero appear in one of those categories -- plate discipline -- but how are they ranked? Dan Szymborski breaks it down. Ranking "intangible" tools (Insider)

Cubs have seen run like Bryant's before

Kris Bryant singled and doubled on Wednesday and has 32 hits, including 13 for extra bases, over his last 20 games. The last Cubs player to match his totals for hits and extra-base hits over a 20-game span was Starlin Castro as a 20-year-old rookie in 2010 (35 H, 13 XBH), the Elias Sports Bureau notes.
