Why the Cubs won't win the World Series

The Cubs won last year after more than a century of waiting. They aren't winning two in a row because, well, that's baseball.

Addison Russell (back) is hopeful to play Wednesday or at lest Thur/Fri but missing opening day isn't completely out of the question if he isn't 100 percent. He's close but doesn't want to take any chances. Ben Zobrist (neck) is back in the lineup on Tuesday after missing a week.

The Cubs released Munenori Kawasaki giving him a chance to explore other opportunities. There's still a chance he returns to the organization.

What you eat in Vegas doesn't always stay down in Vegas. Cubs pitcher Kyle Hendricks flew back this morning after a late Saturday night visit to Taco Bell didn't sit well with him. He gets the irony of being in a city with so many 5 star restaurants and getting fast food poisoning: "I felt awful."

Addison Russell and Ben Zobrist remain out with minor injuries. Today's quote on the lineup card comes from the esteemed philosopher, Anthony Rizzo.

Are the standings becoming easier to predict?

In 2016, the Cubs went into the season, and playoffs, as clear favorites. And they actually won! Is baseball entering an era with fewer surprises?

Though hitting .152 this spring Jason Heyward has done some good things late in camp including a 3 walk day on Sunday after hitting his second home run of the month on Saturday. From the start Heyward committed himself to swinging at strikes no matter what kind of frustration came with his batting average. A higher walk total this season would be a step in the right direction for Heyward.

Forecasting MLB's best, worst fielders

Given Dexter Fowler's defection to St. Louis and the Cubs' logjam of bats they could potentially play in the outfield corners, Jason Heyward's prowess in the field could come in handy.
