Drew Pomeranz on coming back after the rain: "We kind of said if it's more than an hour or if it's past 10 o'clock it would be kind of iffy. Of course, it's a 10 o'clock start time. I'm like, 'Well, s---, it's a hard decision to make, putting it right on the time when we said we wouldn't go over.' But I felt pretty good." Said he threw, rode bike, ran sprints in batting cage during 76-minute delay.

Young, Vazquez homer for Red Sox in 9-2 win over Twins

Chris Young hit a three-run homer and Christian Vazquez homered for the first time in more than a year as the Boston Red Sox routed the Minnesota Twins 9-2 on Tuesday night in a game delayed twice by stormy weather.

Red Sox 9, Twins 2: Don't look now, but Drew Pomeranz has been Boston's second-best starting pitcher lately. Pomeranz waited out a 76-minute rain delay in second inning Tuesday night and stayed in the game to deliver five solid innings and save the bullpen. In his last seven starts, Pomeranz is 4-1 with a 2.70 ERA, 44 strikeouts and 9 walks in 40 innings. Christian Vázquez and Chris Young homered for Red Sox, who reclaimed sole possession of first place in AL East.

Although John Farrell says he "wouldn't rule it out" that Red Sox would use others at DH even after Hanley Ramirez returns, he stressed need to not "completely turn away from what Hanley did last year. I think he's still a key member in our lineup." Ramirez has struggled vs. lefties, batting only .143/.333/.229, far from his career slash line vs. lefties of .300/.381/.523.

A pitchers' duel at Fenway?
