Giancarlo Stanton was scratched from Tuesday's game in Tampa due to some tightness in his left knee/calf. He was hit by a pitch there a few days ago while taking live batting practice. Aaron Boone called it precautionary. Stanton went through all his pregame work and checked out OK. He should be playing tomorrow, Boone added.

Coley Harvey ESPN Staff Writer

Giancarlo Stanton is "getting close to joining us," Aaron Boone said Tuesday. "(But) probably not this weekend," he added. It's possible Stanton finishes his rehab in Tampa this week, then spends a game or two at Triple-A Scranton over the weekend. The Yankees are back home Monday.

James Paxton felt "next to nothing" in his left knee Tuesday as he went through another bullpen session. Aaron Boone said he'll be looking at a sim game in the next couple days. Once he gets through that, the Yankees believe he'll be good to go. Paxton's sim game will occur Friday at the Yankees' facility in Tampa. It'll be a three-inning, 60ish-pitch sim game. There's a strong chance the Yankees will bullpen Friday's game in Kansas City, then have Paxton rejoin the rotation on the next turn.

Aaron Boone said Tuesday that Masahiro Tanaka (right shin bruise) will be making his start Thursday. Prior to that announcement, Tanaka told reporters in Baltimore: "My take is, my leg's fine." Tanaka said he can move fine with the bruise. He only feels it when athletic trainer Steve Donohue presses on it, he said, laughing. During his bullpen session Tuesday, Tanaka also threw pitches to Aaron Judge, who tracked them for the first time since he went on the IL with an oblique strain April 21. Judge told ESPN he was seeing the pitches as if it were April 20 (the day he was hurt).
