Law's offseason trade overview: Brad Hand

The Padres should trade Hand now because every contender would be better with the southpaw. San Diego would be justified in demanding a top-100 prospect plus something more in return.

Naylor notches two hits in AFL

Padres first base prospect Josh Naylor went 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored during Monday's Arizona Fall League action. The former first-round pick by the Marlins in 2015 slashed .280/.346/.415 with 10 home runs and 64 RBIs at high-A and Double-A this past season.

Way-too-early 2018 Power Rankings: Padres among bottom five

The Padres were a respectable 33-41 in the second half, but there isn't really any star power on the team. Most of the top prospects are in the lower minors, so don't expect much help next year.

Cosart, Friedrich become free agents

On Monday, the San Diego Padres outrighted LHP Christian Friedrich and RHP Jarred Cosart off their 40-man roster. Both pitchers are electing free agency instead of accepting the assignment. Cosart and Friedrich each underwent season-ending elbow surgeries this summer.

Law's AFL scouting notes: Luis Urias looks like real deal

Urias is small but seems to have put on some good weight this season. The hard contact he's been making in Arizona suggests his strong offensive numbers as a 20-year-old at Double-A this year were no fluke.

Big day for Naylor

Padres prospect Josh Naylor, who was taken 12th overall by the Marlins in the 2015 draft before being traded to San Diego last year, scored three runs for the Peoria Javelinas on Saturday in a 12-1 rout of the Salt River Rafters. Naylor homered and drove in two runs.

Law AFL scouting notes: Andres Munoz brings the heat

Munoz, just 18 years old, has hit triple digits in the past but was "only" 94-98 on Thursday. He could move fast, even as a teenager, if the control he's showing in Arizona is predictive.
