The Cardinals kept their postseason hopes alive with a 7-0 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates Friday night. The Cardinals could catch the San Francisco Giants for the second wild card if the Giants lost to the Dodgers later tonight. The game had a 47-minute rain delay.

The Cardinals tied a National League record with Matt Holliday's seventh-inning home run, his 20th of the season. The Cardinals have six players with at least 20 home runs this season, tying them with the 1965 and 2003 Atlanta Braves for the NL record. Jedd Gyorko leads the team with 29 home runs, one more than Brandon Moss.

Matt Holliday, activated before the game to get just such a greeting, was met with a long standing ovation when he pinch hit for Carlos Martinez in the seventh inning Friday with the Cardinals leading 5-0 over the Pittsburgh Pirates. Holliday hit a home run to right field off Zach Phillips, his 20th of the season. That, of course, led to an even louder ovation. Holliday took a curtain call. Before the game, the Cardinals announced they will not be picking up Holliday's 2017 option, likely making him a free agent.
