Are The Yankess The Real Deal?

Bomani & Pablo question if the Yankees have what it takes to beat the Red Sox after last night's win, if Julien Edelman's return makes the Patriots dominant again, if Kevin Durant can be lured to the Knicks and much more.

BBTN: Yanks Dominate, Division Series Predictions, Power 8

Buster talks to Tim Kurkjian about the Yankees' dominant win over the A's, his Division Series predictions & more (1:32). Plus, a post-mortem on the Cubs from Jesse Rogers (25:35), Inside Heat on the Yankees from Coley Harvey (35:29), Sarah Langs' Numbers Game (41:37), and a postseason edition of the "Power 8" (46:15).

Marly Rivera ESPN Writer

Blake Treinen on Giancarlo Stanton: "Stanton was an MVP last year for a reason. He hits mistakes, and tip your cap to him, but it sucks when you get beat without feeling like you have your best stuff. Kinda a tough time to really swallow it being this late in the year."

Davis: 'Not disappointed at all' with A's season (0:36)

Marly Rivera ESPN Writer

Fernando Rodney with a refreshingly honest postgame quote: "Once I saw how Judge hit that ball, I thought to myself... this is over."

Marly Rivera ESPN Writer

Giancarlo Stanton when asked about getting to the playoffs in his first season in pinstripes: "That's right. We ain't done."

Athletics are 4-9 in "winner-take-all" postseason games and have lost their last 8, the longest such streak in MLB history (surpassed Cleveland's current seven-game streak dating back to 10/26/97) and have not won a "winner-take-all" postseason game since Game 7 of the 1973 World Series. They are now 0-2 in Wild Card Games (also lost to Kansas City in 12 innings on 9/30/14 at Kauffman Stadium).

Marly Rivera ESPN Writer

Bob Melvin: "This is a tough ballpark to play in. This is Yankee Stadium, and sometimes it's tough to overcome that."

Yanks rout A's 7-2 in wild-card game, set up ALDS vs Red Sox

Aaron Judge got the party started with a two-run homer in the first inning, Luis Severino atoned for flopping in his postseason debut last year and the New York Yankees beat the Oakland Athletics 7-2 Wednesday night in the AL wild-card game.

David Schoenfield ESPN Senior Writer

Giancarlo Stanton's towering home run off Blake Treinen is now the hardest-hit postseason home run since Statcast began tracking in 2015 at 117.4 mph -- topping Aaron Judge's from the first inning, a mere 116.1 mph.

Marly Rivera ESPN Writer

"WE WANT BOSTON! WE WANT BOSTON!" chants in the Bronx as Yankees take a 6-0 lead in the 6th inning.

Marly Rivera ESPN Writer

Cuban shortstop Adeiny Hechavarría comes in as a defensive replacement at third base. As former Marlins Christian Yelich and Giancarlo Stanton, it's his first postseason appearance (in his 7th year in the majors).

Marly Rivera ESPN Writer

Yankees (0-for-2) and Athletics (0-for-5) have no hits with runners in scoring position. Yankees lead 2-0 on a monster shot by Aaron Judge in the first inning.

David Schoenfield ESPN Senior Writer

If the A's find a way to come back in this game, huge credit to rookie Lou Trivino for his three scoreless innings (so far). He's thrown 41 pitches, the second-most he's thrown in a game this season.

David Schoenfield ESPN Senior Writer

The A's load the bases with two outs against Luis Severino in the fourth, but he cranks up a 1-2 fastball to Marcus Semien at 99 mph for a swinging strike three to escape the inning. The A's are still without a hit, but Severino is probably done for the night after 81 pitches, seven K's and four walks.

David Schoenfield ESPN Senior Writer

Yankee Stadium was already rollicking after Luis Severino struck out two in the first and then is exploded as Aaron Judge lined a 2-1, 96-mph fastball from Liam Hendriks into the left-field seats for a 2-0 lead. Oakland's opener strategy has already backfired and Bob Melvin quickly gets Shawn Kelley up in the bullpen.

Marly Rivera ESPN Writer

Christopher Jackson of Broadway's Hamilton sings the national anthem ahead of Yankees-Athletics.

David Schoenfield ESPN Senior Writer

The one surprise on the two rosters is the A's elected to carry only one starting pitcher in Edwin Jackson. You would think you might want to carry an extra one in case something crazy happens -- like an injury or a 13-inning game -- but it also seems an indication that Jackson won't be the first guy after starter Liam Hendriks, as they keep him in reserve in case the game does go extra innings.
