NEW YORK -- Pitchers Mark Mulder, Danny Haren and Kirk Saarloos were included by the Netherlands on its provisional roster
for the World Baseball Classic along with Toronto infielder Shea Hillenbrand.
Atlanta center fielder Andruw Jones was on the roster for the
Netherlands as well.
Haren also was included on the U.S. roster for the 16-team
tournament, scheduled for March 3-20.
Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez also was listed by two
teams -- the United States and the Dominican Republic. The AL MVP
said Wednesday night he will play for the Americans.
Catcher Mike Piazza headlines the Italian roster, which also
lists Toronto outfielder Frank Catalanotto, Texas outfielder David Dellucci, Texas shortstop Mark DeRosa, Detroit pitchers Jason Grilli and Matt Mantei, Oakland second baseman Marco Scutaro and
Yankees pitcher Ron Villone.
Kansas City first baseman Justin Huber is on the Australian
roster, and Yankees pitcher Chien-Ming Wang is on Taiwan's roster,
the commissioner's office said Wednesday, a day after initial lists
of up to 60 players had to be submitted.
Even though he says he won't play, Yankees closer Mariano Rivera
was included on Panama's roster.
Teams must cut their rosters to 30 just before the start of the
Japan's roster listed Seattle outfielder Ichiro Suzuki and Texas
reliever Akinori Otsuka. South Korea listed Colorado pitcher
Byung-Hyun Kim, San Diego pitcher Chan Ho Park and Mets pitcher
No major leaguers were on China's roster.
