Delgado could miss Puerto Rico's game vs. Panama

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico -- Carlos Delgado has tendinitis in his left elbow and might miss Puerto Rico's first game in the World Baseball Classic against Panama on Tuesday.

"I'm a little sore," the New York Mets' first baseman said Monday. "This is a super-important event, but if you're not in the necessary condition, you've got to be smart."

The slugger said he was still undecided about whether he would play against Panama. Asked if he could play if the game was Monday, he replied: "No."

Delgado was to receive treatment and make his decision Tuesday.

The injury kept Delgado out of the lineup on Sunday for an exhibition game between the Puerto Rican team and the Mets in Port St. Lucie, Fla.
