According to ESPN's Ariel Helwani, lightweight contender Michael Chiesa already has someone interested in welcoming him to the welterweight division. Helwani reports that according to sources close to Demian Maia's team, they would like to compete against Chiesa next, if he decides to move up in weight. Chiesa (14-4) missed weight prior to last week's fight against Anthony Pettis at UFC 226, which he lost via second-round submission. He also recently revealed he suffered a broken left foot two weeks before the fight and iis now strongly considering a move up to 170 pounds. "I can't emphasize this enough," Chiesa said on Monday's episode of Ariel Helwani's MMA show, "I seriously thought I was going to die [cutting weight]. Going through the first part of my weight cut, on Thursday, I really thought I was going to kill myself and I'm not exaggerating in the slightest." Photo by Christian Petersen/ Getty Images.
