It was a bad time for referee Herb Dean to miss a call.
Dean is the best referee in mixed martial arts and rarely does he blow a call -- but when he stopped Saturday's title fight between Renan Barao and Urijah Faber (as Faber was giving him a thumbs up) he made a mistake.
Even the non-Faber fans have to feel for the California Kid on this one. He is now 0-6 in title fights dating back to 2008 -- but I don't need to tell you that. You know that. Everybody, by now, knows that.
Losing title fights is becoming as synonymous to Faber as long hair and great abs have been for years.
That's not to say Faber would have won, of course. On the other side of that bad Dean call, is Barao. Hopefully, history will look back on this fight and focus more on what Barao did to Faber than what the referee did to him. This was the best performance yet by a budding UFC superstar.
