Former Strikeforce and UFC veteran Jake Shields will make his WSOF promotional debut on Oct. 11 at WSOF 14 in Edmonton.
Shields will face Canadian welterweight Ryan Ford in the WSOF 14 main event. The card will take place at Northlands Expo Centre and air on NBC Sports Network.
WSOF officials confirmed the bout to ESPN.com on Tuesday. Top MMA News first reported the 170-pound matchup.
Shields (29-7-1) will make his first appearance since he was cut by the UFC after a unanimous decision loss to Hector Lombard in March. Prior to the loss, Shields had won four consecutive UFC bouts, although was officially 3-0 due to a failed drug test.
A former Strikeforce middleweight champion and UFC welterweight title contender, Shields, 35, signed a multifight contract with WSOF in April. He was originally set to make his debut against Jon Fitch in July, but withdrew due to injury.
Ford (22-4) will ride a six-fight win streak into the contest. The Edmonton native has finished 20 of his 22 career wins. He trains out of Tristar Gym in Montreal.
