Mauricio Rua pulled from UFC 161

Unable to quickly secure a replacement for injured Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, UFC has removed former light heavyweight champion Mauricio 'Shogun' Rua from its June 15 event in Winnipeg, Manitoba, promotion officials announced Monday night.

UFC 161 will proceed with 11 bouts. Former light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans faces Dan Henderson in the main event.

Rua will compete in a UFC event later this summer.

Nogueira and Rua were scheduled to meet in the UFC 161 co-main event. But Nogueira suffered a back injury and withdrew from the event on Sunday. The two fought in June 2005 on a Pride FC card, Rua won that bout by unanimous decision.

Chael Sonnen, who fought for the light heavyweight and middleweight titles, offered to replace Nogueira and fight Rua, but UFC officials opted not to accept.
