Research Notes

  • Even without Tim Duncan, the Spurs had one of their most efficient halves in the paint Sunday against the Nets, going 14-of-18 (77.8 percent) in the second half. The 77.8 shooting percentage was the Spurs' best second-half performance of the season and fourth-best overall.

  • The Nets entered Sunday's game allowing 0.72 points per play to pick-and-roll ball handlers, the fifth-best rate in the NBA, but allowed 1.11 points per play Sunday (league average: 0.78). The Nets couldn't contain Tony Parker in those situations, with Parker shooting 7-of-13 and scoring 17 points.

  • From Elias: The Spurs are 1st team this season to 40 wins ... over the past seven seasons the first team to 40 wins reached the NBA Finals only once: Boston in 2007-08.
