Research Notes

  • The Grizzlies lost Game 1 in their first 2 series this postseason and came back to win the series. They also lost Game 1 to the Spurs. No team in NBA history has ever won 3 postseason series after losing Game 1 in a single postseason. In fact, the Grizzlies are only the 3rd team ever to lose Game 1 in 3 different series in a single postseason.

  • The Spurs were 14-of-29 from the 3-point line against the Grizzlies Sunday, which was the most made 3s given up by the Grizzlies this season (Regular and Postseason). All 14 3s came off of assists and 8 of them were on drive and kicks.

  • Coming into the game Zach Randolph was averaging a playoff leading 9.1 points per game in the post. The San Antonio Spurs were intent on fronting or denying Randolph the ball throughout the game limiting him to 1-of-8 shooting with 2 points. Randolph had 11 offensive touches in the game and only 2 of the touches were in post-up situations. The Grizzlies also had 2 turnovers on attempts to pass Randolph the ball in the post.

  • From Elias: Should the Grizzlies bounce back from this loss, they'd join a small list. Just four teams in NBA history lost Game 1 of a Conference Finals series by 22+ points and went on to win the series.
