Jeff Hornacek says forward Maurice Ndour has done a nice job helping on defense and finishing around the basket: "He's that guy that provides activity. I really like the way he moves without the ball, cuts to the basket. He rolls and catches. That's really what we want with him."

Jeff Hornacek says he doesn't want the Knicks to shy away from mid-range shots – as long as they are quality attempts: "We have shooters who, if they get an open 16, 18-foot look, they'll shoot 60 percent. It's just the fact that I think a lot of guys take bad mid-range shots."

Biggest takeaway from the Boston Celtics' intrasquad scrimmage on Friday night at TD Garden: Terry Rozier lived up to all the training camp hype suggesting that he's been the most impressive player in practices. The second-year guard, who many thought the Celtics reached for at No. 16 in the 2015 draft, looked poised, confident, and ready to elevate to a rotation role this season.

With Ben Simmons' status for the season opener in doubt, it's worth remembering that the NFL's No. 1 pick, Jared Goff, did not play in his season opener. The last time the No. 1 pick in the NFL and NBA both missed their season openers was 2007, when it happened with Greg Oden and JaMarcus Russell.

Jeff Hornacek plans to use Kristaps Porzingis in pick-and-pop situations this season. "We want him to mix it up. Sometimes he's going to roll, sometimes he's going to pop," the coach said, adding that he wants screeners like Porzingis & Carmelo to make sure they clear space for their shot.
