Return uncertain after knee replacements

WASHINGTON -- Washington Wizards general manager Wes Unseld is recovering from knee surgery, but his return to the team is uncertain.

The Hall of Fame center, who had both knees replaced Oct. 7, took a leave of absence for health reasons in July.

"I'm thrilled to have this procedure behind me, and I'm looking forward to feeling much better in the near future," Unseld said in a statement released Tuesday by the Wizards.

The statement gave no timetable for Unseld's possible return to the team, or even whether he will return. Unseld has been GM for seven years, but those duties have now been assumed by Ernie Grunfeld, the new president of basketball operations.
