Orlando Magic: CBA guard Mark Jones signed a 10-day
contract Wednesday with the Orlando Magic, who placed swingman Hedo
Turkoglu on the injured list with a broken left wrist.
Jones averaged 20.8 points, fourth in the league, in 41 games
this season with the Great Lakes Storm. He is a former standout at
nearby Central Florida who also has played professionally in
Venezuela, France and the Philippines.
Turkoglu will miss the rest of the season. He was driving to the
basket when he became entangled and went down late in Monday's game
at Charlotte. He was averaging 14 points and was the team's top
Chicago Bulls: Guard Kirk Hinrich missed Wednesday
night's game against the Toronto Raptors with a strained left
Hinrich was the only Bull to start every game this season. The
second-year guard is averaging 15.5 points and 6.7 assists.
Eric Piatkowski started in his place.
Golden State Warriors: Forward Mike Dunleavy tossed
his jersey into the crowd after he was ejected from the Warriors'
game against Dallas on Wednesday night.
In an unusual display of passion for the third-year forward,
Dunleavy became incensed when referee Bill Spooner called him for a
questionable offensive foul in a collision with All-Star Dirk
Nowitzki early in the third quarter.
Dunleavy repeatedly screamed at Spooner while his teammates held
him back. After Spooner ejected him, Dunleavy tossed his jersey
high into the air and left the court to a standing ovation from
Warriors fans, who were agitated by a series of calls favoring the
Moments earlier, Nowitzki and Warriors guard Baron Davis got
offsetting technical fouls for exchanging trash talk and one-handed
shoves _ and about 90 seconds after Dunleavy was thrown out,
Dallas' Josh Howard got a technical for arguing.
Minnesota Timberwolves: Forward Mark Madsen
will miss the remainder of the season with a ruptured ligament in
his right wrist.
Madsen was injured on March 15 against Dallas and hasn't played
in the last three games. He also missed 24 games earlier this
season with a broken left thumb.
"[Trainer] Gregg Farnam, Kevin McHale and I had a lot of talks
about trying to play the rest of the season," said Madsen, who is
averaging 2.1 points and 3.1 rebounds this season. "But we thought
about the risks of that and that we have a healthy Ervin Johnson
and it was a no-brainer."
Madsen plans on having surgery sometime next week and expects to
take about three months to recover.
Charlotte Bobcats: The Bobcats on Wednesday activated forward Gerald Wallace from the injured list and placed
forward Theron Smith on the list because of swelling in his right
Wallace was to be in uniform for Wednesday night's home game
against Phoenix, the team said.
Wallace has appeared in 53 games (52 starts) this season and
averaged 11.1 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.7 steals in 30 minutes. He
was placed on the injured list after bruising his ribs in a game
against Minnesota on March 8.
Smith has appeared in 33 games this season and averaged 3.2
points and 3.5 rebounds in 15.5 minutes. This is Smith's third
stint on the injured list this season.
Houston Rockets: General manager Carroll Dawson
has been given a two-year contract extension, the team's owner said
Owner Les Alexander said he also has taken steps to make sure
Dawson will be with the organization for as long as he chooses.
Dawson is in his 25th year with the Rockets and his ninth as
"Besides extending him, I've also told him he will be a
consultant with the Rockets indefinitely, so that could be who
knows how many more years," Alexander told Houston television
"He has a perspective that's not shared by everybody in the
league," Alexander added. "It's great for the organization to
have somebody like that."
Monetary terms of the contract were not disclosed.
