Already? Sonics' Fortson suspended for foul on Artest

NEW YORK -- It looks like Seattle SuperSonics power forward Danny Fortson hasn't changed his style of play.

The 6-foot-8, 260-pound bruiser was suspended Friday for a game by the NBA for his flagrant foul on Ron Artest in a preseason contest against Sacramento.

Fortson will serve his suspension when the Sonics open the
season on Nov. 1 against Portland.

In the first quarter of Seattle's 103-88 victory Wednesday,
Fortson fouled Artest, making excessive contact with the Kings
forward's head and body.

Fortson has developed a poor track record with officials in the past few years. He was suspended for two games at the end of December last season for berating a referee.

Just a few weeks before that incident the nine-year veteran had complained that he was being targeted by NBA referees.

"It was pretty bad before, but it was no where near as bad as it is now, where you get technicals for smiling, get thrown out of games for no reason," Fortson said. "It's tough to go through that every day."

Fortson has always been prone to fouls. In his NBA career, he averages 3.56 fouls per game but plays only 20 minutes per contest.
