D-Wade named SI's Sportsman of the Year

NEW YORK -- Dwyane Wade is Sports Illustrated's Sportsman of
the Year, the fifth pro basketball player honored in the 52-year
history of the award.

Wade, who led the Miami Heat to the NBA title and earned NBA
finals MVP honors last season, will receive the award Dec. 14 in
New York.

"Dwyane embodies that winning spirit by playing for his team,
not himself, and by working in the community to ensure young people
have the chance to realize their own dreams," SI group editor
Terry McDonell said.

The two-time All-Star, who has averaged 22.9 points in his
career, leads the Dwyane Wade Foundation. It promotes educational
and athletic goals through mentoring.
