SAN ANTONIO -- Manu Ginobili says he will not play for his native Argentina this summer in the world championships in Turkey.
The San Antonio Spurs guard said Friday he is skipping the tournament because his wife is scheduled to give birth to twins next month, and because he wants to stay healthy.
The 32-year-old spent the last two summers recovering from ankle injuries. Ginobili said he was looking forward to his first good preseason with the Spurs in two years.
Ginobili's resurgence since the All-Star break helped the Spurs clinch a playoff spot, and he was rewarded with a 3-year, $39 million extension earlier this month.
The worlds start Aug. 28.
