Kings slip past Wolves

DeMarcus Cousins sealed the Sacramento Kings 79-78 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves with a hook shot with 2.9 second left in the final game of the night at COX Pavilion in the 2010 NBA Summer League.

The game was tightly contested from start to finish. The Kings earned a nine-point lead in the third while the Timberwolves never led by more than six. In all, the game featured 16 lead changes and was tied eight times.

Cousins paced the Kings with 22 points and 12 rebounds, Dionte Christmas and Donte Greene assisted in the Kings offensive effort each adding 13 points. Wayne Ellington recorded a game-high 24 points for the Timberwolves, while Lazar Hayward chipped in 14.

Cousins led the Kings first-half effort with 12 points and eight rebounds, while the Timberwolves had three players, Lazar Haywood, Deon Thompson and Wayne Ellington, tally eight points each.

The Kings maintained their lead throughout the third quarter, finishing the quarter up three, 53-50. The Timberwolves held a six-point lead with 2:45 left to go before the Kings went on a 9-2 run to finish the game.
