LAS VEGAS -- Jeff Teague scored 19 and Jordan Crawford finished with 18 for the Atlanta Hawks as they defeated the NBA D-League Select Team, 97-86, in the nightcap at the Thomas and Mack Center during the 2010 NBA Summer League on the campus of the University of Nevada - Las Vegas.
The NBA D-League Select team cut the lead to nine points, 95-86, with under a minute to play, but the lead, which stretched to as many as 24 earlier in the game, was too much to overcome. Mike Gansey (Erie BayHawks) scored five quick points with the clock hovering around the two-minute mark to spark the run.
Teague and Crawford's offensive effort was complemented by 10 points from Trey Gilder. For the NBA D-League Select squad, Mark Tyndale (Iowa Energy) finished with 21 points, including nine in the fourth quarter while Curtis Withers (Dakota Wizards) scored 19 and Gansey recorded 15 in the loss.
The Hawks scored 21 points off of 18 NBA D-League Select turnovers, while the Hawks committed only 10 turnovers, leading to eight NBA D-League Select points, in the game.
Atlanta dominated in the first half, outshooting the NBA D-League Select 55 percent (22-of-40) to 30 percent (7-of-27) from the field to soar to at 20-points halftime advantage, 50-30. Teague led all first-half scorers with 12 points on 5-of-8 shooting. Tyndale provided a spark for the NBA D-League Select off the bench, scoring seven points on 2-of-3 shooting in just more than nine minutes of first-half action.
The NBA D-League Select outscored the Hawks 27-24 in the third quarter, as Withers notched 13 points for the NBA D-League Select in the third quarter, leading the team with 15 on 6-of-7 from the field through three.
Despite his effort, though, the gap was too big to close, with his Select team trailing 74-57 heading into the game's final quarter. For the Hawks, Trey Gilder scored six in the third.
The NBA D-League Select returns to action Sunday to face the L.A. Clippers, while the Hawks finish out their 2010 NBA Summer League run against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Sunday.
