MIAMI -- New Jersey forward Richard Jefferson injured his right ankle early in the third quarter of the Nets' Eastern Conference semifinal game at Miami on Monday night.
He left the game and did not return. X-rays were negative, and he was wearing a walking boot after the game.
But Jefferson sounded somewhat optimistic about his availability for Game 2.
"In my mind, I'm going to start every game," Jefferson said. "I believe I can play. If there's any way for me to play, I will play. I'm very confident that I will play, but right now, we'll just see how I am at about 6:30 on Wednesday."
Jefferson appeared to get hurt with 10:18 left in the third quarter. He was treated briefly by trainers on the Nets' bench.
He finished with 20 points in 23 minutes, shooting 7-for-11 for the Nets in their 100-88 victory.
