MAKING ANOTHER RUN

The Mavericks will try to do something this postseason that hasn't been done since 1988. That was the year that the Pistons won the NBA Championship after having been runner-up the year before. Since the NBA's first season in 1946-47, nine of 58 runner-ups in the NBA Finals have followed their near-championship season by winning the title. Among the other 47 teams, 11 lost in the NBA Finals, nine lost in the Conference Finals, 18 lost in the Conference Semifinals, six lost in the First Round and five failed to make the playoffs. (Info supplied by the NBA).
