The Dallas Mavericks will take a two-week reign as the NBA's best into Thursday's showdown with the Spurs in San Antonio.

Lose there, though, and they're likely headed for No. 3 in ESPN.com's NBA Power Rankings.

For all of its success in 2006 -- a 22-3 record in the new year and 14 consecutive home wins -- Dallas hasn't been able to gain any real distance from its instate rival in the quest for the top seed in the Western Conference playoffs. The Mavs enter Monday's home date with the Philadelphia 76ers, who are up three spots from No. 18 to No. 15, with just a one-game lead over the Spurs in the Southwest Division. San Antonio, meanwhile, owns a better plus/minus reading of road wins to home defeats (+17) than the Mavericks (+15).
