Remember when the committee (of one) suggested about a month ago that the New Jersey Nets had cemented themselves as top-six material in ESPN.com's NBA Power Rankings?

We're trying this again.

After invalidating our earlier endorsement with an embarrassing slip all the way to No. 11, New Jersey is back up to No. 5 … which means the Miami Heat have been bumped down to No. 6.

The Nets got there with the league's longest active winning streak -- eight straight victories after Sunday's nationally televised triumph on No. 2 Detroit's floor. A week after beating No. 3 Dallas, New Jersey went to Motown and halted the Pistons' home win streak at 16, which sets up an interesting showdown with No. 4 Phoenix back in Jersey on Monday night.
