Who's No. 4?

For the ESPN.com NBA Power Rankings committee (of one), no question has been harder to answer in recent weeks. Detroit, San Antonio and Dallas have established themselves as top-three fixtures, but the leader of the next tier remains in flux. Milwaukee, Memphis and the Los Angeles Clippers have all had a turn recently.

It's New Jersey's turn now.

The Nets and the Cleveland Cavaliers are the latest hopefuls to bid for the coveted No. 4 slot, with the Nets claiming it in the first 2006 edition of the rankings with the help of an eight-game win streak. It's a run that includes a home victory last Tuesday over the Cavs, who made it a virtual coin flip by rebounding on New Year's Eve to hand the mighty Pistons just their fourth defeat all season.
