It seems unlikely at this point that Kyrie Irving will land in New York. Here's why: Carmelo Anthony's top choice in any trade, as of late Tuesday night, is to end up with the Houston Rockets, per league sources. Basically, nothing has changed since ESPN's Adrian Wojanarowski reported over a week ago that Anthony still expected the Knicks to carry out their previous plans to trade him to Houston. So Anthony has prioritized Houston over Cleveland and the Knicks, at the moment, are unwilling to include Kristaps Porzingis in a trade for Irving. So unless things change, Irving-to-New York is a long shot.

The Lakers have been looking for backcourt depth the last few weeks. They met with Derrick Rose and Rajon Rondo. They considered Ian Clark and Isaiah Canaan. Ultimately they decided to keep some continuity from last year with a young player they liked on Tyler Ennis. He'll be on a minimum salary for this year and the team will have an option on a second year if he continues to progress.
