Derrick Rose said he didn't mean to slight Chicago when he said recently that he gets more 'love' in NY than CHI: "In Chicago, I think they just got used to seeing me.... That's no knock against them. I can't get mad at them.... All I can do is just work on my game & hope that they continue to look."

Harrison Barnes on his limited Team USA role: "It was one of those situations where you have to sacrifice. Obviously when you make the Olympic team, you want to show what you can do on the world's biggest stage. At the same time, winning gold took precedent. We didn't want to be the team that either lost the win streak or didn't come home with the gold. Those are the things that we as a team said we were going to put everything to the side and focus on that, and we came through."

What was the Cavs' focus for Day 1 of camp? Ty Lue: "Defensively just trying to get our stuff back that we were working on last year. Just started off with a lot of defense today, having a defensive mindset of this is how we're going to win a championship."

The Timberwolves have hired Scott Roth, who tutored Kristaps Porzingis and Willy Hernangomez in Europe, as a pro scout. Roth, who coached Porzingis and Hernangomez in Spain, is well know and respected overseas. He also coached 11 seasons in the NBA and on four national teams. Seems like a great add to the Timberwolves' Pro Scouting department.

After announcing James Harden will become the full-time point guard this upcoming season, Rockets coach Mike D'Antoni said Tuesday Patrick Beverley will remain in the starting lineup. Beverley will move from point guard to shooting guard. The Rockets like to have either a strong defender or shooter who can create alongside Harden. In some situations, Eric Gordon will pair up with Harden. But at the start of games, Harden and Beverley will be on the court. "Oh yeah Pat can play off the ball and on the ball," D'Antoni said. "He's a great defensive player there's a lot of spots he can play."

The Houston Rockets have higher expectations for this upcoming season. The Westgate Sportsbook in Las Vegas had the Rockets' odds for wins at 41 ½. While not being told of what the odds are, Rockets coach Mike D'Antoni embraces a high win total. "When we got (Steve) Nash (in Phoenix) they picked us, maybe to make the eighth spot and we won 62 games, so you never know," D'Antoni said of the 2004-05 season. "We're shooting for the 62. We're not shooting for the eighth spot, if that's as good as we are then that's as good as we are. I think we're better than that. You could say we're in the middle but I think we're better than that."
