Tristan Thompson thinks the Cavs' Finals loss will push the Cavs this season: "I was definitely angry. You never want to get a quote-unquote gentlemen's sweep losing 4-1. Guys are motivated and hungry. I think guys have that burning desire to get back on the court and kind of take back what we feel was ours."

Kyle Korver says he still hasn't gone back to watch Game 3 of the 2017 NBA Finals when his open corner 3 could have iced it: "I mean, the end of the year hurt me more than any other year that I've probably been it. That hurt, for sure. It was motivating to come back to try to get better this summer and to want to come back to this team. I think there's a renewed sense of urgency. I think there's a sense that we got to evolve a little more too."

Australian Patty Mills on how foreign players perceive the recent divisiveness in this country: "I think we're in a position that we're grateful for the opportunity to be able to live in this country, for me for 10 years, for others obviously a lot longer. But at the end of the day, we are foreigners and we're able to almost take a step back to be able to witness what's going on, and on some chance relate to what's going in your home countries for everyone. And just analyze I guess. We are in that position of being foreigners to really witness, and not have as full of an effect as Americans. But obviously we live here, we're in the mix, and we're living through it too. For me, it has brought realization about how similar this country is to Australia. That's all I can really say. To be able to be here and witness it and see what is going on, I guess everyone has the same thoughts of Australia. The facts are there are some brutal things going on that don't necessarily catch the headlines back there. I'm someone who can definitely relate to what's going on over here. But as I mentioned, I am a foreigner and I have the opportunity to take a step back and witness it all and relate to the circumstances."

Coach Ty Lue says LeBron James seems younger and he calls him Benjamin Button.

Billy Donovan on Melo laughing off the thought of he'd be a starter if not: "We're going to probably, maybe, bring him in at the start of the fourth quarter. No, he's going to start the power forward spot for us. That's what he's going to do."

Royce Young ESPN Staff Writer

As expected, Russell Westbrook did not practice today. He had a PRP injection in his left knee last week.

There are six rows of speakers hanging from the ceiling of the Lakers new practice facility pumping in rap and plenty of bass as the players get shots up at the end of camp's first practice. Sounds better than a concert in here.

Stefano Fusaro ESPN

NYK coaches have said that the Knicks are going to play faster this season. New York ranked 15th in pace last season, per ESPN stats.

Courtney Lee and Joakim Noah are veterans on a rebuilding team. Here's Lee on his approach as the Knicks look to build around a young core: "The only thing we can do is start young.... It's going to be my job and everybody else who's in that 30-club to push these guys and come out here and compete and show them the right way and lay down that blueprint so they can take it and go forward with it."

Kristaps Porzingis on the Knicks offense after their first practice: "I saw some elements from the triangle. I think it's always good to know an offense that's worked in the past. It's always good for everybody, even if we're not playing it. Just to know some other teams use elements from that offense to defend that better. Or for yourself, for your basketball IQ. We worked on it a little bit today and probably going forward we're going to do some things with the triangle. It's going to be good for everybody to know that."
