Mike D'Antoni makes his Rockets coaching debut on ESPN tonight against the Lakers, with whom his star-filled rosters had a 67-87 record in 2 seasons. "There was a lot of reasons that we couldn't get what we wanted in L.A.," D'Antoni said. "Nobody's fault, a lot of good intentions, just injuries, people wanting to play a certain way...Not that I'm mad at them, that's just the reality of it. It just wasn't a good fit, for whatever reason."

Rockets owner Leslie Alexander wasn't around to see the tension with his team last season. "I didn't actually see and feel the tension as much as you would if you were in the locker room all the time," he said Wednesday before his team plays the Lakers. "I was told all the time what was going on." With a new group, Alexander said the chemistry has improved. "Now everybody loves each other now, we'll see what happens, it's a love fest," he said. "Hopefully, it will continue and I think we have a great group of guys and we'll see what happens."

The Rockets were a poor defensive team last season, allowing the sixth-most points in the league at 106.4 with the 10th-worst defensive rating at 108.1. Both stats were the highest among playoff bound teams last season. This season, James Harden believes things will be different. "One hundred percent," Harden said Wednesday morning. "And each every individual (does) too, so that's what is going to help us. As a team our communication defensively (is better) and offensive we can score with the best of them."

When Mike D'Antoni was asked why didn't things work with the Lakers after two difficult seasons he said: "A lot reasons why. A lot of circumstances, nobody's fault. A lot of good intensions, just injuries, people wanting to play a certain way, not that I'm mad about it, that's the reality of it. It just wasn't a good fit." D'Antoni said he did love living in Manhattan Beach.

The last time Mike D'Antoni was a head coach was with the Lakers and it was two brutal years where he dealt with injuries to three of his star players, Steve Nash, Dwight Howard and of course Kobe Bryant. It was Bryant who didn't vibe with the up-tempo offense. Wednesday night will be D'Antoni's first visit to LA when the Rockets visit Staples Center. "The biggest thing (in Houston), management, ownership, star players want to play the way you want to coach," D'Antoni said. "So that makes it nice no doubt. No second guessing. This is the way we're going to go."

Rajon Rondo had high praise for Brad Stevens while discussing his former coach after Wednesday's practice. "He's probably the most positive coach I've ever played for," Rondo said. "Always onto the next play, very inspiring, very encouraging. As a player, you want to play for a guy like a Brad Stevens. He's just real positive."
