Markelle Fultz "is the ideal fit for this franchise," said an energized Sixers President of Basketball Operations Bryan Colangelo who says Fultz "checked all the boxes, not only as a basketball player but as a human being." Colangelo, who traded a future first round pick to Boston in order to move up from 3 to 1, acknowledged that Fultz does have a chip on his shoulder having been cut by his varsity high school coach as a sophomore. "You realize he's got the chip but he doesn't go out of his way to show it. He is motivated to prove people wrong but in a quiet, calm, secure way," added Colangelo who says Fultz is "pretty sure of who he is and is out to show the world. But he's not pounding his chest while doing that."
