Boston Celtics guard Isaiah Thomas (groin strain) declared himself out for Friday's game against the Toronto Raptors. Speaking to reporters at a community event on Thursday, Thomas said: "I won't be playing [Friday]. But [his Celtics teammates will] be ready. I'm going to do whatever I can to get back out there on the court. It's eating me alive to not be able to participate, not to be able to play, but I gotta be smart about this because i don't want this to linger on for the rest of the season."

Another topical social media post from Carmelo Anthony today. The most logical conclusion here is that Carmelo's referencing Phil Jackson's critique of his ball movement:

Lakers starting point guard D'Angelo Russell, who has missed 10 games with a sore left knee, participated in non-contact drills during practice Thursday, but Lakers coach Luke Walton said Russell won't return to action until he completes a full practice or at least plays in a competitive 3-on-3 drill. Russell said he feels great and is just trying to "knock the rust off" for the time being.

X-rays were negative on Gordon Hayward's left ring finger, but it's painful enough to cause him to sit out tonight against the Warriors. "Frankly, I thought he re-broke it last game," Jazz coach Quin Snyder told reporters. "He aggravated it. It's got additional swelling." Hayward broke the finger during training camp and missed the first six games of the season. He's averaging career highs of 23.1 points and 6.4 rebounds despite dealing with persistent pain.

Rick Carlisle on the Mavs' 35-minute postgame meeting: "I just wanted to watch the third quarter with them right after the game. We lost it by 17. It was really the most decisive quarter of the game. I just told them that I'm tired of coming in here and watching film every morning. I wanted them to see what happened. I wanted it to be fresh in their minds walking out of the building." Carlisle said it's the first time he's ever had a postgame team film session in his 15 years as a head coach.
