David Griffin said that imaging done on J.R. Smith's right thumb during the All-Star break showed positive progress. "He seems to be doing very well," Griffin said. "I'd say he's on schedule, maybe slightly ahead of schedule. These things are always, surgeries are difficult to come back from because you well at different times from different things and things that weren't bothering you before in the rehab process start to. We'll see. He seems to be doing really well. I didn't realize he could throw a baseball quite as well as he does, but other than that, he's pretty good."

(I mean...the sentence that starts with "it was kind of a dark moment of uncertainty" isn't a peach either for PG/Pacers harmony)

Deron Williams, interestingly enough, is represented by Jeff Schwartz -- the same agent that Kevin Love, Kyle Korver and Richard Jefferson employ. It could take some maneuvering on his part to make sure no other teams put in a waiver bid on Williams if his client's intention is to end up in Cleveland.

Cavs general manager David Griffin expressed that Cleveland is prioritizing a play maker over a big man with its final roster spot, despite working out Larry Sanders this week. He also said that his team's quiet trade deadline was by design. "We liked our team," Griffin said. "We didn't do anything on purpose."

Lakers president of basketball operations Magic Johnson commented Thursday on the team's trade with Houston, in which the Lakers received an unprotected 2017 first-round draft pick and forward Corey Brewer in exchange for high-scoring reserve guard Lou Williams. "Additionally, Corey is a proven veteran that will make a positive impact on our team right away."

Gibson was asked if his dunk over Dwyane Wade was his favorite moment as a Bull. "It really wasn't. That was just a dunk. It really wasn't one of my favorite moments of my career, to be honest with you. I had a lot of shining moments in my career. Just being around Thibs, he taught me that people don't look at, some of the games, most of the games, they look at the bright spots. I have a lot of different bright spots in my career. The biggest one in my career would have to be just being on the team when guys were down and having a coach look at me and know that he can count on me. No matter what position, no matter what time in the game. And he would trust some of the most important plays for me to do. Those were the most important moments of my life, just having a guy between Fred and coach Thibs, knowing guys that are ahead of me, making twice as much money as me, and he's still calling my name through crunch time. Those were the best moments of my life."
