Simmons, the first pick in the 2016 NBA Draft, is the first top overall pick to get a triple-double in his rookie season since Blake Griffin and John Wall in 2010-2011. Spurs coach Gregg Popovich was asked about his involvement in the Innocence Project. Raptors coach Dwane Casey speaks highly of Popovich's commitment to the project, which was founded in 1992 ,and works to exonerate the wrongly convicted through DNA testing in addition to fighting for reform of the criminal justice system to prevent injustice in the future: "It's beyond egregious to think about, first of all, how many Americans are in jail in the first place; mostly drug-related, more than anybody in the world. Far more than anybody in the world as far as civilized countries. So that's both unacceptable and embarrassing as a nation. We think that we're exceptional, and in many ways we are. But that's one that we're exceptional in the wrong way. Beyond that, a lot of that incarceration happens to people of color. So it's just an egregious situation. To be there for 15 or 20 or 25 years, being wrongly accused of whatever it might be – rape or murder or whatever the offense – that's mind-boggling. I can't even put my head around that. I don't know how the guys that I've met, I don't know how they've kept their patience and kept their emotions in check, and how they didn't go absolutely crazy knowing that they were innocent and sitting there. So the project is an unbelievable benefit to the people in this country, and everyone should understand what the Innocence Project does, and how some people have been treated. Because it's just beyond the pale, it's just inconceivable."

The Suns have asked about young Knicks such as Frank Ntilikina and Willy Hernangomez in trade talks about guard Eric Bledsoe, sources confirm. But New York have been opposed to trading either young player, sources told ESPN. Hernangomez has not been in head coach Jeff Hornacek's regular rotation in the first two games of the season, which has left the second-year center frustrated. But Hernangomez's lack of playing time isn't a sign that the club is looking to move him. Ntilikina has dealt with several injuries early in his career but the point guard remains part of the young core New York wants to build around and management, as of Monday afternoon, did not want to move him in a Bledsoe deal. The Suns' interest in Hernangomez and Ntilikina was first reported by Basketball Insiders.

Steph Curry's scouting report on Dennis Smith Jr.: "Super athletic guard that knows how to play the game. I think that's the most underrated aspect of his game, just the way he sees the floor, the way he tries to get his teammates involved. And he can shoot it. A lot of people fall in love with the way he can high fly and play above the rim at times, just his explosiveness, but the thing that's going to help him be a long-lasting pro and probably an All-Star one day in this league is his ability to play that five-man basketball and get other guys involved and use his strengths to open up looks for other teammates. You never know how a rookie is going to transition into that mindset, as a point guard especially, and he's shown that he can do that. I'm sure that'll continue and only get better."

Jeff Hornacek says Frank Ntilikina will not play on Tuesday against Boston due to an ankle injury. Ntilikina missed most of practice Monday but Hornacek said the rookie's lateral movement has improved and the Knicks hope to have him back for Friday's game against Brooklyn. Ntilikina has missed two games with the ankle sprain, which he suffered in practice Friday. He missed the final four games of the preseason with a knee contusion and the entire summer league with a similar injury. Hornacek said the organization isn't worried about Ntilikina, whom they selected with the No. 8 overall pick, being injury-prone. The coach said the 19-year-old's ailments are a result of playing with maximum effort. "He's playing as hard as he can .... I can't complain about that."
